The House located in the village of Killeigh in Co. Offaly was originally constructed in 1984 and the Project involved the complete refurbishment and extension of the house.

The existing house had a single storey return. This return area was extended upwards to provide some additional accommodation, but mainly to provide a double height volume over a new dining area. In addition, a 2-storey extension was constructed at a lower level which houses a new kitchen area with Master Bedroom, Dressing Room and Ensuite at first floor level.

A significant feature is a patinated Copper “Box” connected to the Kitchen. This “Box” contains a raised Dining/Lounge Area at ground floor level and the roof provides a large balcony at first floor level. The Balcony is off the Master Bedroom and enjoys extensive views of the Sliabh Bloom Mountains to the south of the site.

A south facing conservatory with a zinc roof was added and this leads to a split-level granite paved patio with a water feature.

The entire front facade of the house was extended by 1.5m to provide additional space and gave an opportunity to re-imagine the front façade.

The house sets extremely well in to its pastoral surroundings and has traditional and vernacular elements with a contemporary appearance.
