Located on the outskirts of Longwood, Coláiste Clavin is a post primary school catering for 500 pupils. The school provides facilities for multiple educational needs and contains a PE hall with, changing rooms and gym, special needs unit and sensory garden. The school also contains specialist teaching spaces such as multi media rooms, science labs and construction & engineering rooms.
To maximise solar gain and promote shared learning the school was planned around a courtyard design. This helps passive supervision from one side of the building to the other and is used by student and teachers for educational purposes as well as social aspects. The building also contains voids which provide ground floor corridors with natural light and give a sense of connection over multiple floors.
The site landscape design reflects the approach of connection displayed in the building with its paving design and contains external seated and terraced areas for teaching/ socialising. Other site facilities include a full size GAA football field and multiple ballcourts for a range of sports activities.
